Fat Quarter drawing for January-
Winter Wonderland
Fat quarter themes are a little different this year. We’ll give you a
song title that should evoke a theme or idea. Use your imagination and have a
little fun. Bring your fat quarter to the meeting with your name pinned on or
you can use an address sticker.
Message from the President
Martha
S.
Happy Quilt Year and may your resolutions include finishing one project
that’s been lurking in the corner of the sewing room, or at least buy the
backing for it. It’s always
more fun to buy new fabric. Aren’t
we lucky to live in Central Oregon with the best quilt shops and the best, ever
changing landscape around us?
Please remember to thank our local shops for their support each month
and their class offerings each season. We grow in our quilting skills learning from others,
whether in our own workshops or in a quilt shop class. We’ll be doing more
education in schools, more fundraising activities and will add new activities
in preparation for our 30th anniversary in 2013. Our popular member techniques
meeting will be repeated in May, with even more tips and tricks from our
members. I’ll let
Kayla and Lisa tell you more.
We are still looking for several key committee members for the
year. An audit committee is
required for a short term. A bylaw
review committee is in place but needs additional members. We’d like to see several members
step up into new positions of fundraising, education, publicity and our new
quilt show boutique committee. A partner/apprentice for the annual quilt show and
members to help our raffle ticket sales are very important. Please consider how you can
contribute. YOU make the guild as
wonderful as it is.
Thank you… lots of fun ahead!
Important Reminders
The meeting begins at 6:45 pm.
Unless you are assisting with setup, please don’t enter the meeting room
before 6:15 pm. When you arrive at
the meeting, remember to check-in at the membership table and pick up your door
prize ticket if you are wearing your cloth nametag. As always, please turn your cell phones off during the
meeting.
Community Quilts
Mary T., Karen F., and Norma W.
Thanks for all of the Community
Quilts you made in 2011 and for all of the fabric you donated!! Thanks

Thanks to great Non-Members of the Guild, Sue Jorgensen and Wanda
Barkhurst’s mother and aunt, who made dozens and dozens and dozens of tops, AND
to the members who quilted them. Thanks also to Helen Maurer who
continually donates 10-15 quilts annually because she loves our charities.
327!!!!! An all time high!!! All of our agencies thank YOU so much.

Thank you, one and all, for donating quilts, fabric, batting, thread,
time, and your great quilting skills.
We have delivered 216 beautiful quilts (YEA!!!) to the Infusion Centers,
and the patients, nurses and volunteers are SO happy to have received
them. Comfy and Warm; Perfect
Size; Bright Colors and Designs!! GREAT WORK!!!! Our goal is 300, so we’ll be having
these workshops in January:

12:30-5. Come one, come all!!!
Community Food Drive
Diana L.
Thank You for all the donations to the food
pantry in 2011!
Please continue food
donations for 2012 by bringing one or two items to each guild meeting.
For January, please bring canned peaches or pears. The
Guild uses Nativity Lutheran Church for our community quilt projects
on Wednesdays. The church does not charge us rent, but asks that
we donate to their food pantry. This is a very good deal for us
as we have plenty of room to work on community quilts. Any food donation
is accepted, but if you don't have time to shop, please consider dropping a
$1.00 in the box to help the food pantry. Thank you.
Our Guild Library
Linda M.

Sunbonnet Sue, 12 small quilts, by Christine Porter and Darra Williamson;

Applique Quilts, by Sylvia Pippen, containing quilts and other projects
which combine applique and sashiko in wonderful ways . In addition, we will have a
selection of books to check out and you may return any books previously checked
out. Thank you for your support of
the Guild Library.

Coming Events
Journeys
Art Quilters- Affair of the Necklace opening
Friday, January 6, 2012
Wine and appetizers will be served from 4:00-6:00 pm on January 6th at Sisters Art Works, 204 W Adams Ave. Sisters. The show will run from
January 6th through February 28th, 10:00-5:00 weekdays and Saturdays 10:00-2:00
weather permitting. The Journeys Art Quilters challenged themselves to create
a work 18” x 45” using the theme "The Affair of the
Necklace". Using jewel colors each piece demonstrates the unique
style of the individual artist. The designs use cotton, wool and
silk, as well as embellishments. You will be surprised at the variety,
everything from whimsy to romance, from adventures in the abstract to
pictorial, from playful to intense.
New this year is a collection of small works, each piece 8 “x 8”,
created with the same imagination and attention to detail that the
larger works are, and again, each one unique to the style of the
individual artists. These small pieces will give the public an
opportunity to purchase a work of art at a reasonable price.

Happy New Year everyone and I hope that you are looking forward to 2012
as much as we are. We're starting off our year with over 30 great classes with
instructors such as Barbara Copeland, Vickie Anast, Kim McCray, Jill Monley as
well as our own Mary Ann, Bev, Crys, Karen and Tiffany. Some new classes, fresh
ideas, and lots of fun for doing something with your scraps.
Open House - On Saturday, January 7th from 10 to 4 we are having an
Open House to promote our winter classes. If you sign up by January 7th on any
classes (except those offered through Bend Park and Rec) you'll get a 10%
discount.
Our gallery show for January is Sandy Feigner as the Featured Quilter
and the novel group from QuiltWorks with their interpretations from Elegance
of the Hedgehog. Both are fantastic exhibits and always inspiring.
We are partnering again with the Deschutes Public Library for the Novel
Idea. Last year we had 18 quilts inspired by the novel Kapitoil and it
really was the hit of their Novel Idea program, (at least in my humble
opinion). If you want to participate in this year’s novel join us at QuiltWorks
on Sunday, January 8th, 1:00 for a meeting to discuss the project. The quilts
will be hung in April in our gallery and although a short timeline it will be
long on impact for the thousands of participants in the Novel Idea. Partnering
with the library for this project is a wonderful way to share our love of
quilting with the greater Central Oregon community!
Chemo Quilts - Join us Sunday, January 8th from 11 to 3:30 for a Chemo
Quilt workshop. QuiltWorks is proud of Norma, Lora, Wanda and Helen for their
huge commitment and success in providing these quilts to the Central Oregon
chemo units.
Red, White, Pink and Hearts! - February is American Heart Month and our
group/theme exhibit will be red, pink, red and white quilts and/or quilts with
hearts. Can you participate? Do you have a quilt that fits this description? We
want you to help us promote healthy hearts and the American Heart Month.
That's it, thanks again for being our friends and customers.

have in the shop, and she will give a trunk show & class on fabric
design! We also have invited Elisa of Elisa’s Backporch Designs.
She is the queen of curved piecing! If curves have always intimidated
you, then this would be the trunk show & class for you!! We hope
you’ll think about joining us in our smaller venue this summer – but sign up
today, the classes fill quickly!
We are also ready for your 2012 First Saturday
